Early Diagnosis and Being Told He Was Too Young
When he was 35, he was diagnosed with problems in his hips.
Like many people facing joint pain at a relatively young age, he sought advice from a consultant. The message he received stayed with him for years.
“I was told I was much too young to have anything done about it.”
So he carried on.
For years, he lived with the discomfort, adapting his life around symptoms that gradually became part of his everyday routine. While the condition originated in his hips, it wasn’t always his hips that bothered him most.
Like many people living with long-term joint pain, he found ways to manage. He continued working, travelling and getting on with daily life, even as everyday activities became more challenging.
Over time, however, the impact became harder to ignore.
Around six years ago, he started a new role that involved frequent travel. Spending long periods sitting on aeroplanes became increasingly uncomfortable and highlighted just how much his symptoms were affecting his quality of life.
It was then that a recommendation from a colleague led him to Transform Medical.
After making contact, he was encouraged by the experience from the outset.
Following consultations and clinical assessment, he went on to have both hips replaced, with the procedures carried out at different points in time.
Reflecting on his treatment journey, he recalls being particularly impressed by how smoothly the process was managed.
Eventually, he reached a point where he felt he needed to explore his options.
At the time, he felt he was faced with two choices.
When he talks about life now, it isn’t dramatic milestones that stand out. Instead, it’s the ordinary things that many people take for granted.
For years, travelling had been uncomfortable. Today, he says he can sit comfortably on long flights without the discomfort that once affected him.
He also feels able to carry out physical tasks that had previously become difficult because of the symptoms he was experiencing.
He has also noticed a significant improvement in the knee pain that once affected him.
While every patient’s experience is different, he feels the procedures have had a meaningful impact on his day-to-day life.
Looking back, what he remembers most clearly is not the operation itself, but the years spent believing he simply had to live with the pain.
For a long time, he adapted.
He managed.
He waited.
Eventually, he decided to explore a different path.
Today, reflecting on that decision, he sums up his experience in a single sentence:
Patient story based on an individual patient’s experience. Results and recovery experiences vary from person to person. Hip replacement surgery may not be suitable for everyone. Surgery carries risks. A consultation with a qualified surgeon is required before any treatment recommendation can be made.
