An experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacement, day-case joint replacement and advanced arthroplasty techniques.
Mr Manju Ramappa is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, with more than 20 years of experience in medicine. He has particular expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery, including day-case joint replacement and complex revision procedures.
He is recognised for his specialist interest in modern joint replacement techniques and has helped establish dedicated day-case hip and knee replacement services in Teesside.
Mr Ramappa combines specialist surgical expertise with a focus on supporting patients through their individual treatment journey, helping suitable patients understand their options and make informed decisions about their care.
Mr Ramappa has been practising since 2004 and completed higher surgical training in the North East of England.
He subsequently undertook a prestigious Arthroplasty Fellowship at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, one of the UK’s leading centres for joint replacement surgery. During this fellowship, he gained extensive experience in:
One of Mr Ramappa’s key areas of expertise is day-case hip and knee replacement. He has been an early adopter of this approach and has established dedicated day-case joint replacement services at Nuffield Health Tees Hospital and North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.
Day-case joint replacement may allow suitable patients to return home on the day of their surgery, following assessment and appropriate post-operative care. Suitability depends on individual circumstances and clinical assessment.
Mr Ramappa has a strong interest in medical education and supports the training and development of future orthopaedic surgeons.
He leads an FRCS Orthopaedic course at North Tees Hospital and is involved in organising basic science teaching courses for trainees.
He has also published research in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals and presented his work at national and international conferences, contributing to ongoing developments in hip and knee surgery.
